Program Overview

According to the University of Oklahoma:

Recognizing the growing need for legal skills beyond lawyers, OU Law has built accelerated Master of Legal Studies (M.L.S.) programs for working adults. OU Law offers three programs that focus on core areas of expertise: Oil, Gas, and Energy Law; Indigenous Peoples Law; and Healthcare Law. Each area is steeped in tradition, both at the OU College of Law and across the University of Oklahoma. These programs are also offered online to increase the flexibility and convenience so students from around the world can study at the OU College of Law.

Practicum, internship and/or on-campus intensive The Oil, Gas and Energy Law program requires students to complete a five-day on-campus intensive in Norman, OK.
Concentrations
  • M.L.S. in Oil, Gas, and Energy Law: The degree program offers a competitive advantage to anyone in the energy industry who negotiates oil and gas contracts, deals with mineral rights or real estate transactions, or works closely with energy attorneys.
  • M.L.S. in Indigenous Peoples Law: This builds on the American Indian Law Certificate offered to juris doctor students, but has been specifically designed by the OU Law faculty for non-lawyers whose careers demand an understanding of the complex rules of Federal Indian law.
  • M.L.S. in Healthcare Law: The degree program offers a competitive advantage to anyone in the healthcare industry who handles compliance, advocacy, negotiates contracts, deals with the Affordable Healthcare Act, manages real estate transactions, or works closely with healthcare attorneys.

Admission requirements According to the University of Oklahoma, to be eligible for admission to the Master of Legal Studies program, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Standardized tests (No GRE Required – Only TOEFL for INTL Applicants):Successful applicants will have an official TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test (250 on the computer, 100 on the internet-based test) or higher. Scores must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service. (Code: 6879)
